The Cottage at The Retreat
About
The homely Cottage at the Retreat, nestled into the Staffordshire Moorlands offers a
pristine slice of country living for holiday-goers in search of northern authenticity. The
charming Cottage has two well-appointed bedrooms, both en-suite, with an indulgent
jacuzzi bath in the master bedroom and a single bed in the second bedroom, making it
ideal for small families and couples. The self-service kitchen is tastefully finished with
granite work surfaces, an oven, microwave, a fridge, and offers all the necessities for
some holiday cooking, should culinary inspiration take hold.
Daily housekeeping and laundry services are available at the guests discretion and incur
an additional charge.
In-room breakfasts are served as a breakfast basket for an additional fee, while full English
breakfasts, lunches and dinners are available in the Retreat Bistro just a few steps away.
Afternoon tea is a highlight at the Bistro, with homemade cakes and a choice between
sparkling wine and teas to further enhance the experience. And anyone wanting to dig a
little deeper into Leek’s village life will find numerous intriguing shops, tea rooms, a
supermarket and a good collection of restaurants all within walking distance from the
Cottage.
The Cottage at the Retreat gives superb access to the Staffordshire Moorlands, while the
stunning hills, lakes and caves of the Peak District are just a few miles away and easily
reachable by car or cycle (and a local bus service connects to Castleton for guests who
don’t drive). Hikers are well-served with the Rudyard Lake Loop and the Deep Hayes
Circular Walk, just outside of Leek. And the Churnet Valley Steam Railway is an excellent
family day out, offering a classic and immersive option from which to view the idyllic
delights of the Staffordshire Countryside. Closer to the Cottage, guests can enjoy a local
swimming pool, a golf course, and tennis courts.
While the Cottage is self-contained, just across the street, guests have access to the
Retreat and Wellness Centre. Here guests can indulge in a full menu of massages,
luxurious wellness packages, hairdressing and beauty treatments, perfect for unwinding
after a day spent hiking the bucolic moorlands of Staffordshire.
