Set on a traditional village lane in the attractive hamlet of Pilsey, the Devonshire Arms is a traditional gastropub with rooms. The bar is warm and inviting with exposed brick walls, while the rooms have comfortable designer finishings that permeate with an enticing sense of laidback-luxe. Petite rooms above the pub are intimate and stylish, while the four-poster rooms in the adjoining farmhouse were each individually designed by the Duchess of Devonshire, lending them a suitably luxurious, stately air.

The Devonshire’s communal areas have all benefited from considerate rethinking to better enable social distancing throughout the property. Hand sanitiser stations are located at convenient locations throughout and personal sanitisation kits are in every room. Reassuringly, cashless and contactless payments can be made by calling the hotel reception, and every room and communal area of the hotel benefits from a rigorous cleaning schedule.

The pub serves traditional gastropub fare for lunch and dinner, but its breakfast is the real star, with local produce directly from the Chatsworth Estate served in the classic Peak District style of a wood-panelled pub oozing with countryside ambience. To maintain social distancing in the restaurant, tables are further apart, cleaning takes a little more time, and booking is a must, but the service still shines, and the food is as indulgent and delicious as ever. To check-in online, browse (and book) the restaurant menus from the comfort of your room and to keep up-to-date with the hotel’s Covid-policies, the hotel has created a convenient app, for a fully touch-free travel experience.
